Thanks everyone for your comments. Liz, I loved your story about the active meditation while weeding the school garden...that was beautiful! I stopped by to peek at it a couple days ago and it looks wonderful to see how everything is growing so well.
So regarding my CT scan everything looked mostly clean.. There was one area of question but I don't have the radiologist report yet. They will do a bone scan when I get back from my family reunion to further investigate. The chemo doctor spent over 2 hours with us to help further explain the pathology results. I really like Dr. Isakoff very much. It was 7pm when we finally finished up. He seems dedicated and compassionate. While going over the 5 page report, he said he has never seen such a detailed report and he wondered if that was because the Chief of Pathology, Dave Louis, was overseeing the process. A friend had introduced me to him in Maine on a weekend the day after I had the 2nd biopsy and he had offered to assist.
The abnormal cells are still considered triple negative and stage 2, as well as grade 3 (most aggressive) so I am certainly glad I did the double mastectomy and got the 2 tumors out. The pathologist analyzed a lot of tissue blocks and one of them was positive for the Her2Neu receptor, which means they can add another treatment called Herceptin. So it was explained to me that the first 3 chemo drugs would bring my chance for recurrence down from 70% to 35%, and now that they can add Herceptin, those odds would drop down to 17%.
Hard to know where I would land in the statistics pool, but as long as the process does not wreck my immune system, it seems to be a choice anyone would make. He is fine with me doing all the supplements and treatments except for Vit C & E because they would interfere with the treatment. He gave me a prescription for a wig and suggested cutting my hair short before beginning. I was scheduled for an ecocardiogram and bone density test and they took blood for the white blood count and other levels.
So I am off to take my mind off it all and spend time with family. Thank you all for checking in on me to see the latest news and for sharing your encouraging comments. I really appreciate and love you all!
